  1. Logic and creativity are the best of friends when they work together. If you want to make better decisions in your life, use both approaches. Logical ideas (left brain) and creative ideas (right brain) can be linked to and arranged around a central key point (Mazariegos, 2012).
I do not think you have to choose one. There are times when I use logical thinking. At other times I use both logical and creative thinking. It really depends on what I am working on or thinking about at the time.
An example would be if I was helping my Son with financial planning. First I would help develop a realistic budget. I would be logical here and deal with what is available only. But to offer advice on how to increase his budget I would employ creative thinking. I would creatively look for extra income streams that would allow him more money in his budget.

  2. Logical thinking and creative thinking are two completely different ways of thinking. I am a logical thinker for the most part but there are times when I need to use both logical thinking and creative thinking together. I do not think that you have to choose one over the other. Some of the best ideas come from thinking both logically and creatively at the same time.
An example of a time when I used logical and creative thinking together would be when I was planning my wedding. I first thought logically about the budget: how much to spend on the dress, the wedding, and the reception. I also had to think logically about which things were the most important for us to have at the wedding and which things we could live without. I then had to get creative when planning all the little details: colors, decorations, music, etc.

  3. I believe that logical thinking and creative thinking can work together. Logical thinking allows us to assess our situation, weigh all of the options, and then make the best decision available based on all of the acquired data. Creative thinking helps us to think “outside of the box,” or come up with solutions that we may never have thought of before. Convergent thinkers are typically logical, while divergent thinkers are creative.
A good example of logical and creative thinking working together is from the dish detergent bottle. In the process of brainstorming other uses for the bottle, creative, and divergent thinking is employed. A person starts with a problem, like that of finding new ways to use the bottle. Then, they search for multiple solutions to the problem, which is a sign of divergent thinking.
After reaching a possible solution, logical or convergent thinking is used to examine all of the data. Is the solution feasible? How much resources need to be invested to make it work (time, money, effort)? Is there a better use for the bottle? Then, after examining all of the data, the solution is implemented by writing down the steps that are necessary to transform the idea from a theory into reality. After that, resources are gathered (labor, materials, and expertise), to make a physical object out of the plans on the blueprint.

  4. Creative thinking allows you to assume out of the box, “be creative”. Logical thinking is common sense thinking. “Creative thinking works by using the right side of our brain though logical thinking uses the left facet.”( http://gretchen64.wordpress.com/2011/04/22/creative-thinking-vs-logical-thinking/) We generally use logical thinking on a daily basis several times a day. Most people do not use creative thinking daily and is known to be more unique. Although I do think some people use creative thinking more than logical depending on the job. Jobs like fashion designers, interior decorators, and even hair dresser really need to use the creative thinking more than let’s say an accountant.
I also think that people should be able to use creative in office environments when creating spreadsheets or presentations that need to wow people. I really believe that everyone has a creative side some just utilize it a lot more than others. We should all use both sides and think logical and creative.

  5. When I think about logical and critical thinking it depends on what is the person trying to solve or answer. I think about the Star Trek television series and Mr. Spock. Mr. Spock would always have a logical reply to a question from the crew of Star Trek. "Logic is the beginning of wisdom not the end" (Spock to Valeris STII). As human being, we all have different ways of trying to understand how we react to situations in life. My reasoning for using either method is coming up with the best possible solution to a problem; the best way for me to decide the best choice could be thanking logical or deep critical thinking as long as the solution is the right one.

  6. To follow on from my Cumulative assignment this week. When doing this type of presentation one must be very logical, but also show a lot of creativity in order to convince people of the validity of this subject. I was looking for some start up funding to get a baseball camp going in our village. Logically, I needed show how much I knew about what is needed, what the costs would be, who would be involved, how much they would be getting paid; how many kids would be there, how much they would pay, how long was the camp, what about accommodation, and, would there be more than one over the summer. Creatively, I needed to show what could this look like going forward? These stats could be drawn from other successful camps, with references from their coaches, the GMs and the league. Also, people would like a visual with more pictures than we had, in a powerpoint, showing what this could look like. What we have now – the diamonds, dugouts, bleachers etc. and what it could be. Some of the questions were just nosy parkers, which perhaps my answers to those were just a bit short; but others were quite valid and well thought out. In hindsight, it wouldn’t have taken much to give those answers, but the more I could not answer, the more it looked as if I didn’t know what I was about. Even though we didn’t think so at the time, it was really the best decision for everyone. Changes in the circumstances of those involved would have made this quite impossible. But it was a valuable lesson learned.

  7. Creative thinking is a dominant way of thinking for businessmen and those of expertise. Everyone can be creative but artists and musicians utilize creative thinking because they like to think outside the box. Creative thinkers are optimistic individuals and love to think of new ideas to share with others. Logical thinking is greatly utilized in ones everyday life. I believe I am more of a logical thinker but I do use a small bit of creativity. I try not to make decisions based off of my emotions and many logical thinkers are the same. Logical thinkers look at every aspect of a situation with analyzing the facts and weighing out both the pros of cons of a situation before making a logical decision. I believe those of great power will be subject to use both reasoning when making important decisions. I think someone whom uses both is very intelligent.

  8. Logical thinking can have proven methods to approach finding a solution that is factual. It can be limiting if you take out the creative thinking and only use logical thinking. It is hard to classify something new with old labels if you’re looking for new ideas. (Kirby, 2007) Each method of thinking works alone and can work well together to keep the creative thinking focused on a solution that can be tested and logic in the area of having new and fresh ideas to test. Creativity can come from failures, which is one way I feel that logic and creative thinking work well together. I could use the example of using logic to balance a budget. When you can’t make it balance logically, then you have an opportunity to use creativity to brainstorm new ideas. Emotions can affect both logical and creative thinking; this is something to take in consideration when deciding how to approach a situation like a budget. Feelings operate as conditions of creativity.

  9. Creative thinking and logical thinking both work together. It is unnecessary to choose one or the other. “Creativity is an early base of our thinking because of its functions is to produce the thoughts we think with.” [Kirby & Goodpaster, 2007] Creating in a specific field requires knowledge and skills. For example; A cabinet maker has knowledge and has learned skills to make cabinet. The cabinet maker can used the information he knows to create custom cabinets and new designs.
“Thinking logically and identifying reasoning fallacies in one’s own and in other’s thinking is the heart of critical thinking. The appeal to ignorance is not an appeal to one’s stupidity, as the name suggests.” [Kirby & Goodpaster, 2007] For example, we cannot prove that aliens do not exist, but that does not mean that they do.

  10. The question of can logical and critical thinking work together, I would say sure. I believe that both forms are important when it comes to making a decision. The only thing I feel can come from using bother types of thinking would be to allow you more reason to evaluate any situation. For example this situation which is taking place with Ebola patients in Dallas. If I am to use logical thinking, I would start preparing my family to relocate if the situation worsens. If I were to use Critical Thinking, I would map out a contingent game plan as to what my family and myself should do in the event the situation becomes more wide spread encompassing my area of Cleveland, Texas. By contingent planning I simply mean applying preparedness tactics such as having available cash on hand, having an evacuation plan in place.
